Sam Barker joined Gibson Thornley Architects in 2022, wanting to work at a practice with values that aligned with his own, particularly around sustainability and social impact, and doing so by realising complex buildings at a range of scales. He has since worked on projects of many differing typologies, including commercial, cultural and residential buildings, across all stages of the design process. Sam is particularly skilled at creating drawings to communicate design intent to a range of project stakeholders.

Prior to joining the practice, Sam completed his architectural education at Newcastle University and the London Metropolitan University.

For Sam, good architecture is ordered, methodical and celebrates the materials from which it is made. It creates holistic places and has a simple, considered form.
